Artist bio

Christine Lefeaux Waites is a Coffs Harbour based artist. Her practice focuses on investigating the socio-historical persecution of women through a feminist critique. Her work combines contemporary photography processes with material investigations that explore the potential of mixed media and sculpture to evoke experience and agency.

 

In 2023, she completed a Bachelor of Visual Cultures and Fine Art (with Distinction), which explored the subjugation of women’s reproductive bodies using fairy tales as a platform. She is currently studying Creative Research Honours at Curtin University in WA.

 

In a land not so far away, contemporary biases continue to cast the ageing and reproductive body as abject fringe-dweller. Through interweaving complex facets of tales and art, Christine exposes the ideologies that have led to the subjugation and confinement of women.
